Our Nearest Galactic Neighbor

Captured 16 November 2025

The Andromeda Galaxy (Messier 31) is the closest large galaxy to the Milky Way, about 2.5 million light-years away, and the most distant object easily visible to the naked eye. It's on a slow collision course with our own galaxy — the two are expected to merge in roughly 4.5 billion years.
